GWR is urging passengers to check their journey before they travel if travelling through Didcot and vicinity this Sunday.

Network Rail are carrying out vital works to modernise the rail infrastructure.

The works will pave the way for more trains and more seats but will mean Didcot Parkway Station is closed to rail services for six Sundays in February and March.

Trains will be diverted or replaced with direct bus services.

Rob Mullen, GWR General Manager Central, said: “Part of the modernisation of the Great Western network, this work helps move us closer to the benefits of electrification – delivering more trains, more seats, more frequent services, and reduced journey times.

“The signal upgrade is vitally important to improve our customers’ travel experiences for the future."

The work will take place on the following Sundays: February 7, 28 March 6, 13, 20, 27.

Bristol Temple Meads and London Paddington trains will be diverted away from Didcot and will call at Bath Spa, Reading, and London Paddington, extending journey times by approximately 20 minutes.

South Wales and London Paddington Trains between these stations will be diverted away from Didcot and will call at Bristol Parkway, Swindon, Chippenham, Reading and London Paddington, extending journey times by up to an hour

Other affected services:

• Oxford and Reading - an hourly direct bus service will operate between these stations

• Oxford and Didcot Parkway - an hourly direct bus service will run between these stations, as well as a stopping service calling at Radley

• Oxford and Slough - an hourly direct bus service will run between these stations

• Swindon and Didcot Parkway - an hourly direct bus service will run between these stations

• Didcot Parkway and Reading - a direct bus service will run every 30 minutes between these stations, as well as an hourly stopping service calling at Cholsey, Goring & Streatley, Pangbourne and Tilehurst

• Cheltenham Spa/Worcester and London Paddington - trains will be diverted away from Didcot Parkway and will call at Gloucester, Bristol Parkway, Bristol Temple Meads, Bath Spa, Reading and London Paddington, extending journey times by approximately 50 minutes
