THIS year’s prestigious Wiltshire Business Awards has crowned contract packaging suppliers Wasdell the Outstanding Excellence Award.

The firm won the top award – which was sponsored by Thrings, a long-time partner of the event - after winning the Medium Sized Enterprise of the Year award earlier in the evening.

The company, which was founded in 1971 and is one of the largest and most experienced contract packaging suppliers to the healthcare industry in Europe, has grown considerably since moving to new headquarters in Swindon.

The company moved to its 100,000 sq ft purpose-designed facility, which contains 16 purpose-built production suites which are fully goods manufacturing practices (GMP) certified, in 2010.

Daniel Tedham, Operations Manager at Wasdell, said: “It feels fantastic to win, it’s great to see our progress and growth being realised and recognised throughout the county.

“Our growth, which includes acquiring new manufacturing facilities in Burnley and Newcastle, is one of the catalysts for our achievement tonight. Customer service and dedication, which includes making sure the customer gets what they want, is also key to our success, and is something we really pride ourselves on.

“As a service-orientated business, you’re only as good as your last order, so you need to keep standards high, and we endeavour to do that with every new customer.

“Things are looking very bright for us at the moment.”

Production takes place 24 hours a day, seven days a week, employing a workforce of over 250 staff at the Swindon HQ.

The company’s 72,000 sq ft storage and distribution facilities provides space for over 10,000 pallets, so that products can easily be stored, called off and delivered to its customers worldwide.

Simon Holdsworth, managing partner at Thrings, presented the company with the award.

He said: “We have been able to celebrate the successes of our business community at this ceremony and it is really fitting that we considered 19 businesses for this award which is more than ever before and spread across the county. Every business is a credit to Wiltshire.

“What comes across is that everywhere in the businesses there is dedication and the team share hard work.

“Simply, Wasdell was the best of the best. Innovation, investment, growth and wholeheartedly committed to their industry and to Wiltshire. It is a true success that the business should be incredibly proud of.”
