LANDLORDS are hoping for a winning boost as the Euro 2016 tournament looks set to bring fans to pubs across Wiltshire.

England’s first game against Russia kicks off at 8pm on Saturday, and many landlords are expecting a rush of customers.

In Trowbridge, newly-opened pub The Courthouse in Castle Street will be screening each and every game throughout the month-long competition.

Rob Smith said: “Of course we will be showing every match. We are even offering 20p off every pint for England matches and we will also be putting on free snacks at half time.”

“We’ve ordered some decorations for the pub as well to make it a great atmosphere.”

Other pubs around the town that will be showing the tournament include the Rose and Crown in Stallard Street, the Kings Arms in Castle Street, and the Black Horse in Frome Road.

In Melksham, The West End Inn, in Semington Road, has got in on the act, adorning its walls with England flags and posters, with spectators able to catch each England game live.

Bartender Tasha White said: “We have got the place kitted out for the Euros and we will be showing all the games here. I am really looking forward to seeing Harry Kane in action. Everyone should come down to enjoy it.

“Our biggest screen is 60 inches, with three screens and we also have five booths each of which have TVs in them.”

The Tavern, the King’s Arms and The Pilot are also screening the games live throughout June.

Euro 2016 fever is a little more muted in Bradford on Avon, as just a handful of the town’s many pubs are doing anything – some make a virtue out of not having a TV.

The Boathouse pub on Trowbridge Road is welcoming fans, showing all the games in their upstairs function room which is draped with flags. Elsewhere The Plough, The Bear Inn, The Swan Hotel and the Canal Tavern will be showing games.

James Sullivan-Tailyour, owner of The Swan Hotel, said: “As we have a lot of other events going on we will not be putting on anything in particular.

“We welcome people coming here to watch it but we cannot suspend our other activities for the championships. We will play it by ear in terms of what we do and who turns up.”

Clive Hilton, owner of the Dog and Fox in Ashley Road, said: “We are actually a TV-free pub, it is actually a USP of ours. But people have shown an interest so this week a man is coming in to install a TV.

“If we get a crowd we will put a bigger TV in. I am responding to demand rather than advertising it.”

Holt’s Tollgate Inn is aiming to help the village when it hosts a £10 pie and a pint event for the England-Slovakia game on June 20, with the proceeds going to Holt Primary School.
