Seven Wiltshire residents have been named in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

KNIGHTS BACHELOR: 

Professor Roger Vernon Scruton for services to Philosophy Teaching and Public Education

Roger Scruton, originally from Buslingthorpe who now lives in Wiltshire, is an English philosopher who focuses in Aesthetics.

He has written more than forty books including Art and Imagination (1974), Sexual Desire (1986) and more recently Fools, Frauds and Firebrands: Thinkers of the New Left (2015).

Last year Prof Scruton was promoted to the post of expert on the Corbyn question and has made significant contribution to The Times, The Observer and The Spectator.

He has a BA, an MA and a PHD in philosophy from the University of Cambridge and has taught at a variety of universities across the world.

Additionally, the father of two also helped found The Salisbury Review in 1982 where he took the position of editor until 2001.

CBE:

Professor Derek Harold Calam, OBE for services to Public Health and the Regulation of Medicines

Derek Calam graduated in Chemistry from the University of Oxford and after appointments with the Medical and Agricultural Research Council, he joined the UK National Institute for Biological Standards and Control and became their Head of Chemistry.

Mr Calam has been an advisor to the World Health Organisation on pharmaceuticals and biologicals since 1984 and chairman of the WHO committee responsible for allocating names to medical substances.

He is currently a visiting professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Strathclyde.

Adrian Allen Leppard, QPM. Formerly commissioner, City of London Police for service to Policing and the Prevention of Economic Crime

Adrian Leppard is a retired senior British police officer and former Commissioner of the city of London Police.

Originally born in Surrey, Mr Leppard began his police career in 1984 when he joined Surrey Police as a constable. He worked his way up the ranks, serving as a traffic officer to be promoted to sergeant in 1989 and trained as a detective.

By 2003, Mr Leppard had become the area commander of North West Surrey in the rank of Chief Superintendent.

In 2005, he transferred to Kent Police as assistant Chief Constable, leading the investigation into the Securitas depot robbery. He was then promoted to Deputy Chief Constable in 2007.

Finally in 2011, he joined City of London Police as their Commissioner, as well as heading the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau.

In the 2012 New Year Honours list, Mr Leppard received the Queen’s Police Medal and in December last year.

OBE: 

Desmond Keith Evans. Chief executive officer, MAN Truck and Bus UK Ltd for services to the Motor Industry 

Des Evans, former Chief Executive Officer of MAN Truck & Bus UK has spent more than 40 years in commercial vehicle sales and marketing in the UK.

He joined MAN as a Sales Director in 1991 and helped develop the company and its network into a leading position.

MBE:

John Rodell, Operations director, FTX Logistics for services in Support of Army Heavy Equipment Transportation

John Rodell is a Durrington Town Councillor, Director of TFX Logistics and Chairman of the Heavy Transport Association.

Since 1999, Cllr Rodell has been the Director of FTX Logistics based in Salisbury that holds a 22 and a half year contract to deliver the British Army’s Heavy Equipment Transportation Service on behalf of Fasttrax in the UK and Germany.

Mr Rodell was also a cabinet member of Salisbury District Council between 2007 – 2009.

Richard Fredrick Warren, Special Constable, Wiltshire Police for voluntary service to the Police

Richard Warren has been serving Malmesbury as a special constable for more than 40 years and was presented with a lifetime achievement award from Wiltshire Police in 2013 for his service to local policing.

He is also a keen jogger, running races and marathons to raise money for multiple sclerosis charities.

Dr Rowan Pirrie Whimster for services to Heritage and Conservation

Rowan Whimster who lives in Ramsbury has worked in the historic environment field for more than 40 years, first as an aerial archaeologist at Cambridge University and later on the executive board of English Heritage.

He is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, former Bice-President of the Council for British Archaeology and Senior Member of the Council of the National Trust.

Today, Dr Whimster is part of the Board of Wessex Archaeology and is a freelance editorial consultant and adviser but also makes and sells ceramics in his free time.
