WILTSHIRE Police are appealing for information after a man was fatally stabbed in Trowbridge in the early hours of this morning.

The victim, who has been named locally as 24-year-old Jordan Taylor, was with a friend in the Timbrell Street and Prospect Place area of the town when they were both assaulted by the offender, who then ran off.

Paramedics from South Western Ambulance Service were called to the carpark of Trowbridge Community Hospital at 1.30am where the 24-year-old man was announced dead at the scene. The paramedics then called Wiltshire Police.

The second man, who only sustained minor injuries, is assisting police with the investigation but no one has been arrested in connection with the case so far.

Although parts of Seymour Road, British Row and Islington have been cordoned off, forensic scientists seem to be concentrating their efforts around York Buildings and the surrounding area. The Wiltshire Times understands that it could be connected to drugs.

Detective Chief Inspector Jeremy Carter of the Brunel Major Crime Investigation Team, said: "We would like to speak to anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious in this area of Trowbridge around 1.45am today.

"Irrespective of how small you may think it is, if you heard or saw anything that struck you as strange - please come forward.

"I want to reassure everyone living locally that we are treating this as a major investigation and are doing our utmost to find the offender.

"We will be putting on extra patrols in the area, so you may see an increase police presence in the town - rest assured this is all part of our investigation in to this incident.

"We are running a major incident room at Trowbridge Police Station, so if you can help us with our enquiries please call us on 101 or anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111."

Residents in Trowbridge are being warned to make alternative plans for communting tomorrow as police cordons could still be in place.
