DAMAGE to the £145k McLaren which crashed on Sunday morning was so bad that it was almost unidentifiable, said firefighters today.

The bright orange McLaren 570s crashed at around 6am on Sunday between Trowbridge and Westbury, hitting an electricity pole and house before coming to rest.

Both the male driver and his passenger were out of the car when emergency services arrived.

Damien Bence, Trowbridge Fire Station manager, said: “We turned up to a report of an RTC with persons trapped and I got there first before the appliances in a service vehicle and was confronted with utter devastation.

"This vehicle had left the road at some speed, collided with an electricity pole which was ripped out of the ground and forced into the building itself, leaving electricity cables all across the road.

“We didn’t know if there were people still trapped in the car at the time but as we got closer, we could see that the two blokes had escaped and that the car was a burnt out shell.

"The only way we could tell it was a McLaren was by the brake callipers which had McLaren written on them.

“The car itself knocked down a brick built porch and it went through a few collisions before grinding to a halt and then bursting into flames.

"It just goes to show how strong the cock pit area is though as the driver only had a bloody nose and seatbelt pains.

“It was definitely one of the worst scenes of devastation I have seen.”
