Man will face trial on attacks

A man is to face trial by judge and jury accused of a series of sex attacks on boys over a 17-year period.

Anthony Whatley, 48, of Milton Avenue, Melksham, is charged with rape, attempted rape and other matter of indecency in relation to three boys who were all under the age of 16.

He denied all charges at Swindon Crown Court on Friday. He will stand trial on December 17.

He is accused of rape, indecent assault and indecency with a child on the first lad between the start of 1976 and the end of 1986.

The allegation of indecent assault is said to have taken place along with another man.

In relation to the second boy Whatley is charged with attempted rape and three counts of indecency with a child between the start of 1988 and the end of February 1990.

He is accused of one count of indecency with a child in relation to the third youngster, which is said to have taken place between the start of 1991 and the end of February 1993.
