MOVEMBER participants across Wiltshire were left with a cold upper lip this week, after the final shave-off of moustaches.

The annual sprouting of facial hair aims to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer.

This year’s participants included 20 customers and staff from the Bath Arms in Crockerton, who held their shave-off on Friday, November 30.

Local Barclays Bank manager Nikki Spreadbury-Clews and landlord Dean Carr helped organise the event, while Nikki’s husband, Nigel, was one of the participants.

Mr Spreadbury-Clews said: “The Bath Arms looked after us well and it was interesting drinking Guinness with a moustache, as it always ended up on the top lip.

“I think everyone is already thinking about how to style their moustache for next year’s attempt.”

It is anticipated that £1,650, which includes matched fundraising from Barclays Bank, was raised by the self-titled “Mo Bros”, who were also assisted by the “Mo Sistas”.

During the Movember appeal, two of the Bath Arms’ Sticky Beef nights were held, with a donation from each meal going to the charity.

Certificates were handed out for Best Groomed, Best Trucker look-alike and Best in Show on the final night.

Elsewhere, Corsham Town Football Club has so far raised £760 by growing moustaches for the Movember appeal, with 25 members of the team taking part.

The club hope their total will rise to £1,000 by the time they have finished collecting money from sponsors.

Manager Trevor Rawlings said: “Not many of us have kept the moustaches now we are in December.”

Members of the Wiltshire Times editorial team also got in on the whiskery act.

Deputy editor Neville Smith, sports editor Owen Houlihan, photographer Glenn Phillips, content editor Bruno Clements and reporters Craig Jones and Adam Care raised £465 for the appeal with their well-groomed efforts.
