Hmmm....

Dickensian eh?

Seems like a case of be careful what you wish for / the land of unintended consequences ?

I suspect \'Victorian" might have been a safer bet in Trowbridge.

Dickensian feel, I suppose means the creation of the squalid and poverty stricken conditions portrayed in the novels of Charles Dickens.
I would suggest that most of the town centre shops leave things be - they are doing a great job already.

I think that giving the shops in Trowbridge a Dickensian feel would be a quantum leap forward in retail establishments from the middle ages. So long as the chavs can be replaced by street urchins as well :-)
