Boxing Day trips aboard a steam railway in a Wiltshire garden will get Help for Heroes on track for a festive fundraising boost.

The Great Bulkington Railway Boxing Day event has been running for more than 20 years and, in that time, has also helped re-build the village hall and given money to the local school and playing fields.

The private, 1,000ft stretch of 5in gauge, ground level passenger-carrying line, near Seend, will operate from 1pm until it gets dark at 4pm.

Nev Boulton, 79, runs the event in his garden in Mill Lane, where he has a 40ft tunnel and 1,800 ‘sleepers’ made out of plastic bags.

The rides are supported by the West Wilts Society of Model Engineers. Two trains with two passenger coaches will operate on Boxing Day, and sweets and hot sausages will be given away, courtesy of the Well Inn.
