Merger plans to update two GP surgeries

Plans for a new improved Trowbridge doctors’ surgery will soon be sent to Wiltshire Council.
If they are approved a new surgery will be built on land behind the Adcroft Surgery, in Prospect Place, incorporating the Bradford Road Medical Centre, which would close.
The two surgeries held a planning exhibition in Trowbridge Civic Centre at the end of November, explaining the merger.
Dr Stephen Locke, of Adcroft Surgery, said: “This was driven by the fact that the Bradford Road surgery are working out of an old house and they desperately need to move.
“This merger would offer better services and see some real advantages for local people. All the staff and equipment from Bradford Road will be here, making us one big surgery.”
A merger would lead to the facilities of both general practices being improved, as well as the addition of an x-ray unit and improved general anaesthetic surgeries.
Trowbridge’s other GP surgeries would be encouraged to use the new facilities to improve the standard of health care in the town.
The field which will be built on is used by Trowbridge Cricket Club, and rented from the NHS.
It has long been earmarked for health use. Previously, there have been proposals to close the town’s hospital and the surgery, with a primary care centre being built in its place but Dr Locke insists this is not part of the plan for the merger.
He said: “A few years back there was talk of potentially closing the hospital but this proposal is a standalone project and the hospital will be remaining open.” “Our design doesn’t take up the entire field, so there’s a big chunk which will not be used, so I’m sure the health authority and the club could come to an agreement.”
The surgery would have a new name, which has yet to be decided.
Plans are expected to be submitted to Wiltshire Council by the start of February, with work hopefully starting at the end of 2013 and the new surgery opening at the end of 2014.

Move everyone to the old WWDC building on Bradley Road. More than enough room, plenty of parking, and won't use up a rare green space in Trowbridge.
