Peter Black site land discussed (From Wiltshire Times)

I think the Peter Black site is a major thorn in the councils side. Brand new cinema and hotel complex all beautifully surround by a dirty multistorey and homeless sanctuary old run down factory. Imagine waking up and looking out at that view lol.

This has been discussed for donkey's years hasn't it?

..... planning department do n,t make me laugh.next they will be planning a sensory garden next door to the sewer woks, oh that does nt bring in money to pay for their nice buffet lunched meetings.

I think the old WWDC Building in Bradley Road is where they should put the job centre. Flatten the building in Bythesea Rd that houses the job centre at the moment and make a direct crossing from the Shires, along the front of Asda to Boots, thus getting rid of the other stupid crossings at that mess of a roundabout. The issue of people parking in the garage to visit the job centre is sorted at the same time.

I share your thoughts on the redevelopment of the old Job Centre builidng and ideally the Telecoms building next door to create a proper connection to the Gateway development. WC wants to bring all its services under one roof anyway. Still one step at a time. Hopefully, the reserve application for the Bowyers site will be approved and encourage other investment to create jobs and improve the Towns appearance

WWDC is a bit big for the job centre alone, but I agree with your point re. a coherent pathway of shops from Boots/Next to the Shires.
Maybe a job centre / surgery / local MP office, etc.

all of which might increase usage of the Bythesea Road car park so that we can feel we are doing something useful when waiting at the red lights instead of hitherto for no apparent reason (though I doubt it would be any different at night.).

Going back to the Peter Blacks site issue. WC planned to get a demolition order on the building about 18 months ago but the Tax Payers shouldn't pay because the land owners have failed their responsibilities. The site is in the hands of the Recievers who took on this responsibility and should not be allowed to site on it waiting for a fat cheque. I'm surprised a deal has not been done between L&G and WC to resolve this as they both have a vested interest in it. I did suggest to L&G that they should acquire the site as one of their sticking points was No. of parking spaces but no response. I think the site is suitable for Parking next to roundabout and County way with an entrance to L&G Complex across the River and some suitable leisure units at the larger end of the site nearest the Bridge to Tesco. A trade off could be releasing the small Car Park behind the Library site for development.

It's a pity that the buildings can't suddenly, and inexplicably, go up in flames as what happened to the Elephant and Castle pub.

Ah.. those traffic lights to The Gateway entrance on Bythesea Road?

Who set the sequence on those then eh? Changing green to red on approach when you're the only vehicle on Bythesea Road at 11pm? and some apparently bizarre sequencing at other times too.

Symptomatic of Wiltshire Council unfortunately.

When will Wiltshire Council wake up and start doing practical things rather than hosing £200, 000 a year on "Transforming Trowbridge" and other pointless penpusher job creation schemes.

They can make a start by making Longfield roundabout traffic lights peak hours only - think of the carbon they'll save from powering the lights and the idling car, van, truck and bus fuel....
