Police continue crackdown against Trowbridge anti-social drivers

Police patrol the Bradley Road retail park before Christmas
Anti-social drivers in Trowbridge were targeted by Wiltshire Police on Monday evening.
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit and the Neighbourhood Policing Team have been keeping up the pressure on drivers who cause a nuisance in parts of the town.
Since launching Operation Endeavour in December, the Roads Policing Unit and Neighbour Policing Team have been targeting known nuisance areas in the town including Bradley Road, Wiltshire Drive and the Spitfire retail park.
Sergeant Gavin Brewster, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “We stopped a number of people for driving whilst using their mobile phones, speeding on Bradley Road and adjoining roads, driving without insurance or ignoring the no right turn out of the retail park.
“We also carried out checks on vehicles to ensure they were safe and roadworthy.”
The police carried out a similar operation in December in an attempt to reduce speeding, engine revving and load music playing from vehicles, particularly in the retail park.
PC Helen Daveridge, Community Beat Manager, said: “We are pleased that our initiative, coupled with the co-operation of the retail park, has led to a significant drop in reported incidents.
“Since talks with the council and the landlord of the retail park, the barriers are being closed on time which has no doubt helped to reduce anti-social driving.”

"Hogging middle lanes of motorways is not antisocial behaviour; it is not contrary or injurious to the interests of society in general. It is simply bad driving".
It depends on the circumstances. on a busy motorway if you are not a slow mover or a speeder it is common sense to stay in the middle lane if you need to make any reasonable progress. if you apply the rule of moving into the left lane it wont be many seconds before you need to get out again and that is not always easy. In fact if you did it all the time it would do your nut in.
so it is not bad driving though in some cases it might be, nor are those that do it idiots, although some may be

With regards anti-social drivers, are the police unable to impound cars which produce excessive exhaust noise - european directive or something? Ridiculous number of 'sports exhausts' on decidedly unsporty cars in Trow.

Sorry, we are at cross purposes as I understood the topic to be the continuous stream in middle lane
I am fully aware of the code thanks - it doesnt help much in certain conditions. The vast majority of motorway users exceed the speed limit and this appears to be tolerated with only extreme speeds being charged.
Am with you on the chaps who equate unnecessary noise with good car maintenance.

Is the law doing anything about their litter. Whilst they are probably not t he only litterers, there is always a huge amount of rubbish right where the retail park gatherings were parked.
