A TROWBRIDGE couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Valentine’s Day.

The diamond milestone was marked by Roy, 83, and Gill Adams, 80, who hosted a family party at their home in Bradley Road.

They are both originally from Wales and met when they came to the region to work in their teens. Mr Adams, originally from Cwmtillery, said: “We met at The Lamb, in Trowbridge, which is quite a coincidence as I never used to go to the pub, so it must have been fate.”

The couple married on February 14, 1953, at St David’s Church, in Beaufort, with the reception being held in Ebbw Vale.

Mr Adams said: “We didn’t actually know when we were first organising the wedding that we’d get married on Valentine’s Day, but it was a lovely bonus. It was a great day and it snowed heavily – about six inches stuck on the ground.”

During the first year of their marriage, the Adams' lived in North Bradley before moving to their current home. Before retiring, Mrs Adam had worked at The Old Ride School, in Bradford on Avon, before moving to mattress company Chapmans of Trowbridge and then working for Bowyers for around 25 years.

Mr Adam worked at Westbury Train Station for 48 years on steam trains and in the diesel depot.

They have two children, Lynne and John, as well as three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Their daughter Lynne Jordan said: “This is such a big milestone, especially when you consider how short some relationships are these days, and it’s lovely they can share their Valentine’s Day anniversary with family.”

Mrs Adam was the former chairman of the ex-Bowyers group and keeps in regular contact with members.

Mr Adam enjoys gardening and DIY, and the couple also enjoy dancing.
