Spuds put cash in the pot for Codford

The fourth annual Codford Potato Day and Seed Fair proved to be a big success among spud lovers on Saturday, with Codford and District Gardening Club raising more than £400.

Each year, the fair provides an opportunity for enthusiasts to stock up on seed potatoes from 80 plus varieties, including some of the more unusual types of potato.

The fair offered heritage seeds, fruit trees, rhubarb crowns, onion sets, and a whole lot more for the kitchen garden for those wishing to try something a bit different.

The event, organised by The Codford and District Gardening Club and Pennard Plants, was held at Codford Village Hall.

Club chairman Jay Clay-poole said: “It was a very good day and we managed to raise a lot of money, which will go in the pot for the club’s running costs and to subsidise future trips and events.

“It was lovely to see so many people come out and support the event.

“It was also good that many of them stayed on for coffee and homemade soup at lunch time.

“We had a lot of demand for seeds during the day and most people’s baskets looked pretty full by the end, so we were glad that everyone enjoyed it.

“Overall, we raised more than £400, which is fantastic for the club. “We hope to book with Pennard Plants again next year as they are excellent, and we wish to thank everyone who joined us for a great day.”
