Wilts Canal Trust boss feted

The chairman of the local branch of the Wilts and Berks Canal Trust has received international recognition for his dedicated volunteer work.
Derek Fletcher, 53, was awarded the 2012 CEO Award for Volunteerism along with a $5,000 grant from his employer Motorola, after he spent nearly 300 hours of his own time working to restore the canal last year. He was one of 10 employees from around the world to win the award, and the only one from the UK.
The grant will be put towards the ongoing restoration of the canal near Pewsham, where members of the trust have already dredged and rewatered significant lengths of the waterway.
