A COMMUNITY drama group in Holt has been awarded the Best Drama Production 2012 regional prize by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA).

Holt Dramatic Society’s production of Harold Pinter’s The Birthday Party won the South West award at a ceremony at The Thistle Hotel in Cheltenham last Saturday.

It was staged, with a cast of six amateur actors, in the village hall last April.

Director Lizzie Ward, of Ham Green, said: “This was a truly ensemble piece. A tremendously talented cast was supported by a wonderful production team and many people from the community.

“The play was performed ‘in the round’, which, although challenging for the actors, provided an atmosphere for the audience that was truly compelling.

“It is wonderful to realise that a small community drama society can compete with the ‘big boys’ and win.”

Holt was nominated for Three in a Bard in 2011.
