John of Gaunt School has received a top award for the level of teaching it offers to pupils.

Following an assessment last week, the school, in Wingfield Road, Trowbridge, has earned a Challenge Award from National Association for Able Children in Education.

The accolade pays tribute to the opportunities on offer to able, gifted and talented students.

Headteacher Andy Packer said: “We haven’t got the full report yet, but the assessor told us this is a school with heart, our pastoral care is second to none, the discipline is fantastic and that a lesson by John Bishop, our head of English, was the best they’d ever seen.”

Fewer than 300 schools have earned the Challenge Award and John of Gaunt is only one of three in Wiltshire to receive it.
