Ride and Stride event to boost Wiltshire's churches
2:36pm Tuesday 3rd September 2013 in Latest News
Wiltshire’s churches are set to showcase their history and architecture to visitors on Ride+Stride Saturday next weekend, a national event which raises money for the repair and conservation of churches of all denominations.
This is the 30th year of the event in Wiltshire, with more than £1 million being raised.
People taking part in Ride+Stride are sponsored to raise money for their favourite church or chapel, as well as for the Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust.
And in addition to sponsored cyclists and walkers, also taking parton Saturday, September 14 will be runners, joggers, horse riders and mobility scooter users.
The majority of Wiltshire’s churches will be open between 10am and 6pm, with many offering snacks and drinks to participants, from cakes and biscuits to home-grown fruit.
Anyone can take part and visit as few or as many churches as they like. There is no specified route – just go where your inclination takes you. But if you need ideas, there are 11 church trails featured on the web-site mentioned below.
Among those cycling will be Bishop Ed Condry, Bishop of Ramsbury, who last year cycled in aid of charity from Olympia in Greece to the Olympic Stadium in London.
