Our Trowbridge champion superstore
Staff are celebrating the Trowbridge Sainsbury’s store being named the firm’s top supermarket.
The branch, in British Row, was judged the best of its 589 supermarkets, being honoured during Sainsbury’s annual conference at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, last week.
Judges praised their customer service, career progression opportunities, product availability and community work.
Store manager Val Atwill, who has been with the branch since it opened in 2010, said: “It was nice just being nominated but to win in front of 5,000 people was just fantastic.
“I could not get over how proud our customers were when they heard.
“It’s a great team and I’m delighted to work with them. This award recognises their hard efforts and shows what an important part we now play in the Trowbridge community.”
The branch has raised funds for charities such as Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Comic Relief with Trowbridge-based Alz-heimer’s Support being the store’s charity partner this year. The store wants to work with Trowbridge’s Larkrise School on a gardens project.
Darren Sinclair, Sainsbury’s zone manager, said: “Trowbridge is a perfect example of a store being right at the heart of the community.
“I know they’ve built a strong bond with customers and charities.”
To celebrate there was a party for the store’s 161 staff and their families at Trowbridge Cricket Club on Sunday.
