More schools have made a decision about whether to open or close because of next Thursday’s teachers’ strikes.

The one-day action has been called by the NUT and NASUWT over a number of disputes, including wages, pensions and working hours, and headteachers will be making decisions on whether to stay open or not based on the number of union members in their schools.

Devizes School will be closed to all school students  as a result of the industrial action along with St John’s in Marlborough.

Lavington School will be closed but DVD screenings will be taking place for Year 7 and 8 pupils who need to attend dressed in school uniform.

Chippenham schools Abbeyfield, Sheldon and Hardenhuish will be closed but will provide a study space for Year 7 and 8 pupils to work.

St Laurence School, in Bradford on Avon, will be posting a decision on their website this evening and Malmesbury School expect to make a decision on Monday.

Trowbridge’s St Augustine’s College will only be open to Year 11 pupils and sixth form students.

Kingdown School in Warminster will be closed next Thursday, while Trowbridge’s John of Gaunt School will be open for Year 11, 12 and 13 pupils.

Clarendon Academy, also in Trowbridge, will be opening for their pupils in Year 7, 8 and 11 as well as sixth form students.

The Corsham School and Melksham Oak Community School have yet to make a decision.

Elsewhere, John Bentley School in Calne will be closed to all pupils on Thursday and Pewsey School, near Marlborough, is open only to Year 11 students.

Richard Gamble, Wiltshire Council portfolio holder for schools, said: "We are aware that strike action by some teachers who are members of certain unions may affect Wiltshire schools next week.

"In order to minimise the disruption and inconvenience this could cause to children's education, to families and to other teachers, we have been offering advice and guidance to schools to help their leadership teams decide if their school is able to remain open."

Parents are advised to contact their schools for individual updates but there will be updates on Wiltshire Council’s website at www.wiltshire.gov.uk.

This does not cover academies, so all parents are advised to check with their schools first.
