The region’s rugby community have paid tribute to Trowbridge Rugby Club’s life vice president Noel Stafford, who died on December 8.

A father of six, Mr Stafford, 82, who grew up in Trowbridge, joined the town’s rugby club in 1948 and since then had served in many roles on the committee.

Between 1997 and 1999 he also served as Dorset and Wilts Rugby Football Union’s county president.

Ron Jones, the area’s current Dorset and Wilts RFU representative, said: “Noel was a really positive person and was passionate about supporting youth rugby. His work has left a great legacy at Trowbridge RFC which has seen them move to a fantastic new stadium this year.”

Mike James, Trowbridge Rugby Club president, said Mr Stafford will be missed by everyone at the club.

He said: “Noel had such a passion for the club, the game and Trowbridge. He was one of the town’s stalwarts and will be sadly missed.”

Mr Stafford also served the community on Trowbridge Town Council and Bulkington Parish Council.
