A Chippenham man who is accused of assault and possessing an offensive weapon has been released on bail by a judge.
Daniel Payne, 25, is said to have assaulted Jack Hopkins in Chippenham on Friday, October 18, last year.
And Payne, of Southmead, is also said to have had a hammer on The Causeway at the same time.
Payne is accused of assault causing actual bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon.
No charges were formally put to him when he appeared at Swindon Crown Court on Friday.
Judge Douglas Field adjourned the case to Friday, March 21, and released him on bail until then on condition he does not contact Mr Hopkins.
