Roadshows to help advise sports clubs on how to access funding to improve their facilities and attract more members are being held next month.

Modernising and refurbishing clubhouse buildings, creating new sports surfaces and providing outdoor sports lighting are often essential developments for sports clubs.

The roadshows this month will provide key information on Sport England’s current grant funding opportunities; Inspired Facilities and Small Grants. Clubs will learn what the criteria for these grants are, what to include with any application, what barriers to avoid as well as having the opportunity to speak to clubs who have already been successful with their own applications.

Representatives from sports clubs including Pewsey Vale Bowls Club will be attending the roadshows.

The bowls club received £50,000 from Sport England’s Inspired facilities grant fund, following advice from Wiltshire Council. The money, awarded in the last 12 months, was put towards a clubhouse build.

Caroline Sprott, of Pewsey Vale Bowls Club, said: “Getting Sports England funding has made a huge difference to our dream of renovating and extending the clubhouse, and the support we had was invaluable in ensuring we covered all the bases on our application.”

County Hall in Trowbridge will host the first event on Tuesday, February 11, while Salisbury & South Wilts Sports Club welcomes club officials to the second event on Wednesday, February 26. Both events start at 7pm.

Jonathon Seed, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for leisure, said: “We are passionate about sport in Wiltshire and throughout the county we have clubs that play a key role in providing fun and competitive sports for all, often doing this on a tight budget.

“We can offer these clubs a helping hand to access funding so they can build a new clubhouse or update old facilities and I hope as many as possible will attend these roadshows.”
