Police want to speak to this man in connection with counterfeit notes being used in shops in the Chippenham area.

The community shop in Kington St Michael fell foul to the scam when a fake £50 was offered as payment for a few low value items including sweets.

The fraudster also used counterfeit £50 and Scottish £20 notes in Emery Gate shopping centre between January 31 and February 5, at Clintons, Card factory, CEX, Sports Direct and Peacocks.

But staff at the Co-op at Corsham were suspicious and refused to accept the note, which smelt of hairspray.

Police say all the fake notes shared the same serial number.

Officers have leafleted shops informing how to identify the counterfeits and are urging retailers to be vigilant.

Anyone who recognises the man in this CCTV image is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
