Anger at Redrow's 220 homes plan in Warminster

Proposals for a development of 220 homes west of St Andrews Road in Warminster have met opposition from nearby residents concerned about the impact it would have on the area.
The plans, which have not yet been submitted by developer Redrow Homes, were presented to locals on January 23 during a public consultation at Warminster Rugby Club.
Since the consultation, Warminster Town Council has received an increasing number of enquiries from residents opposing the proposed development.
Sandra George, who lives in St Andrews Road near where one of the proposed access points would be, believes the plans would cause traffic chaos and has delivered letters to about 200 houses encouraging people to send their objections to Wiltshire Council.
Mrs George said: “Although they have not submitted the planning application yet, many of us are concerned about what will happen if we have an additional 160-plus cars driving along the road.
“St Andrews is proposed as one of two access roads for the new development and it is already quite narrow as it is, so I don’t see how we will cope with all that extra traffic going through our quiet cul-de-sac.
“I am also very concerned for the young children who play in our cul-de-sac, as with the increase of vehicles it will become very dangerous.
“We need to get as much support as possible to oppose the development, even though it is likely to go ahead as it’s part of the Core Strategy.
“If it does go ahead, we certainly don’t want the access to be through our road.”
Redrow Homes said the proposed development will be for about 220 homes, comprising “both market and affordable accommodation in accordance with the needs of the local market area”.
A statement from the house builder said: “No planning application has been submitted yet.
“However, a well-attended public consultation event took place on January 23.
“Redrow also intends to undertake thorough consultation with Wiltshire County Council prior to submission.
“Redrow has been promoting the site through the Core Strategy process through which the council has identified the site for future housing development.”
