Mum Lisa Mead-Smith is so determined to raise money for Stepping Stones that she’s not letting the little matter of a broken leg stop her taking part in a sponsored fun run tomorrow.

Mrs Mead-Smith, whose two-year-old son Bailey goes to the specialist nursery, is still in plaster after injuring her left leg two months ago but will still be taking part in the Bath Half-Marathon family fun run – in a wheelchair.

Bailey will be doing the 1.5mile course with her, as will her husband Damien, 39, and their older son Oscar, five.

Mrs Mead-Smith, 28, of Eden Vale Road, Westbury, said she wasn’t going to let the injury stand in the way of her taking part in Sunday’s event.

She said: “It was nothing really major what happened. I’m just happy I can still take part in the run. We are looking to raise as much as we can but if we could get £1,000 in sponsorship that would be great.”

Bailey has a rare condition called Sotos Syndrome, which affects his development.

Since he was eight months old Bailey has attended Stepping Stones, and the family want to say thank you for all the physio, speech development classes and support that the nursery has given them.

Mrs Mead-Smith, the chef at The Railway Inn, Westbury, said: “Stepping Stones is a fantastic place and so many people don’t know about the good work they do. It’s one of those fantastic places which people don’t know about until you need it. We are so grateful to them as Bailey has come on in leaps and bounds so we want to raise as much as possible for them.

“Bailey is such a tough little boy and he has gained so much from going to Stepping Stones. He can now crawl and pull himself up, it might not sound like much to some people but that is a lot to us.

“Oscar even benefits from Bailey going there, as he can play with his little brother and has made friends at Stepping Stones too.”

Bailey also receives treatment from the Royal United Hospital, Bath, and Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
