Visitors to Corsham’s historic almshouses may need a double take when they see its latest feature.
Peter King, the chairman of the charity’s volunteer guides, has been immortalised as a 17th-century schoolmaster in a new portrait in the reception room.
It was painted by Beanacre artist Les Benson and was revealed to guests last week ahead of the start of the new visitors’ season.
Mr King said: “It’s rather strange, but a great feeling to see myself up there.
“It provides a talking point because it’s in our reception room, so when visitors come in the first thing they see is that portrait.”
The Almshouses, which were built as 17th-century social housing for the poor and were extensively renovated in 2002, are staffed by volunteers. Visit www.
