Teenage market and business workshops will provide Apprentice-style inspiration

Young entrepreneurs are being encouraged to make their business dreams come true in Trowbridge with the launch of a teenage market and a programme of business workshops to provide Apprentice-style inspiration.

Those aged between 13 and 19 will be able run a stall at the teenage markets, where they can sell their own products, giving them the sort of entrepreneurial skills they can use in the future.

The Trowbridge Town Team scheme is also offering young adults up to the age of 30 the opportunity to take part.

The first chance to run a market stall will be on Wednesday, May 28, followed by a teenage market in early November.

To coincide with the new market, David Baker, chairman the town team, is offering a series of business workshops to give the participants a taste of the world of work.

Mr Baker said: “The key is to give young people an opportunity to learn more about business and to give them the tools they will need to go on and get jobs or set up their own businesses.”

“This is a great opportunity for young people to develop leadership, teamworking, retail skills and take part in masterclasses to improve their interviewing skills.”

Support for the Market and the Workshops has come from Trowbridge Area Board, Hitachi, St James Church, Active Trowbridge and The Youth Development Department.

The enterprise is being run as a free, first come, first served project, which it is hoped will become a sustainable part of Trowbridge Market Life in the future.
