Double Olympic champion cyclist Ed Clancy will be one of the big names taking to the county's roads during Cycle Wiltshire this weekend.

Cycle Wiltshire – part of Wiltshire Council’s A Legacy for Wiltshire partnership – takes place on Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4, and is a chance for people to take to the road on their bikes, as well as experience the excitement and thrill of top-class cycling on their doorsteps.

The Cycle Wiltshire Grand Prix on May 4 is the second event of the season in British Cycling Elite Road Racing Series.

The best domestic riders and teams will all be in attendance including five UCI continental registered teams, five British Cycling Elite registered teams as well as other teams and individuals from across the UK.

Elite road racing is a chance to see some of the best cyclists in the world up close and for free, including double Olympic Champion Ed Clancy riding for Rapha Condor JLT.

The Cycle Wiltshire Grand Prix starts in the Market Place, Wilton, near Salisbury, at 11am where people will be able to get up close to the riders as they get set for to tackle 100 miles around the Wiltshire countryside. 

The Cycle Wiltshire Sportive event on Saturday and gives riders of all cycling abilities the chance to take part in a picturesque ride through Salisbury and the surrounding area.

Those taking part will have a choice of three distances to ride – 20 miles, 64 miles or 100 miles.

There is also a one-mile route for youngsters and their families.

The event starts at Five Rivers Leisure Centre, Salisbury, from 8.30am. The 100-mile route riders start between 8.30-9.15am, the 64-mile route riders start between 9-9.45am and the 20-mile riders at any time between 10am and noon.

There will be displays and exhibition stands as well as entertainment for all the family to enjoy at the Sportive Village at the leisure centre.
