Trowbridge at Twickenham: Life-long fan has to miss the big day

Life-long Trowbridge fan Terry Randall is having to miss the big final because he’s away on holiday.

The 75-year-old, who has been to every home match this season, joined the club in 1960 and has cheered them on at three different grounds in the town.

He said: “My wife and I went to the semi-final in Guildford which was fantastic, absolutely incredible, but I can’t go to the final.

"I’m going to Mexico with my grandchildren and I can‘t get back for it, but hopefully the score will be relayed to me.”

He also had to miss Sunday’s big promotion game because he flew out the day before the match.

He joined the club when it was based at Bradley Road, playing tight-head prop, and has followed it ever since.

“If you’d said back then they would get to Twickenham I wouldn’t have believed it. We were all very amateur then, there was no league system.

“I know it’s not professional but it’s a big business now, as well as a sports club.

“I first started playing at Bradley Road, then we purchased the Green Lane site in 1962, as we didn’t have anywhere to play, and I helped build that ground. I thought I would miss it, but I don’t, as it’s the people that matter, and the new club is amazing.”

Despite missing the game himself he is confident the team can pull off the double of promotion and cup glory.

He said: “The teams are all in the same sort of league, but at the moment we have an incredible team, and an incredible coach in Steve Ojomoh It’s good for Trowbridge as well to have a successful sports team.”

Finance and admin manager Chris Lamb said: “Someone will definitely be keeping in touch with Terry. He is a trustee, and he’s always looked after the club.

“He was one of the ones who stuck his hand in his pocket when we were at the old club on Green Lane. It’s a real shame he can’t be there on the day, but we all know how much he has done for the club over the years.”
