Budding writers will have a chance to see their poem and name printed on beer mats as part of this year’s Bradford on Avon Arts Festival.

The competition, open to anyone over the age of 16, carries the theme of light, and poems must be no more than 12 lines long.

They should be typed, in English, and must not identify the author in any way, otherwise they will be disqualified.

Ten shortlisted poems will be printed onto 25 beer mats each and placed in pubs throughout the town and surrounding villages during the festival from September 1-20.

Martin Malone, editor of the poetry journal Interpreter’s House, will judge the competition, which closes July 30.

Winners will be invited to read their poems at a special awards night at the Swan Hotel on September 3.

Entry costs £4 per poem or £10 for three poems, with a top prize of £200.

Poems must be sent to Dawn Gorman, ABR House, Prospect Place, Trowbridge, Wiltshire BA14 8QA by July 30. For more details, visit www.BoaArtsFestival.com
