Bradford on Avon Bowls Club opened its doors to the public to begin the 2014 summer season.

After weeks of wonderful weather, the first drive of the year took place on a chilly and damp Saturday afternoon, and the American supper became afternoon tea when rain stopped play.

The public were not put off, though. Both open days were a roaring success, with lots of people keen to try out the sport for the first time and some experienced players, new to Bradford, enrolling.

Publicity officer Lesley Hunt, new member Simon Woodhead and greenkeeper Maurice Cowley were interviewed and featured on BBC radio, and the club enjoyed success in both its games.

The Men’s Triples Team, undaunted by being newly promoted to Division 1, secured a substantial victory over Chippenham Park in their opening fixture. In a mixed friendly game on Saturday afternoon the home team beat Weston Bath by a large margin, so the season has got off to a very good start.

Anyone who was unable to come to the open days but is interested in taking up bowls will be warmly welcomed at the club any Friday evening from 6pm when teaching and practice time is available. For more information contact Lesley on 01225 863066 or visit www.bradfordonavonbowlsclub.org.uk
