Four teenagers from west Wiltshire gave a presentation to The Earl of Wessex in Salisbury at an event to celebrate the achievements of Duke of Edinburgh’s Award groups in Wiltshire.

Caitlin Barber, Josh Brackstone, Sarah Clifton and Isabel Slark, who all participated in their Bronze, Silver and Gold DofE awards through Court Mills Youth Development Centre in Trowbridge, told the Earl about the difference the DofE has made to them over the last three years.

He enjoyed the presentation, and afterwards chatted to the group and presented Josh, Sarah and Isabel with their Gold award badges, a rare privilege.

Caitlin is still working on her Gold award.

To achieve a DofE award, participants must complete four section activities (Volunteering, Physical, Skill and Expedition) for at least three months for the Bronze award and increase to at least 12 months commitment for each section for the Gold award.

Louise Fisher, who runs the scheme in the county, said: “As their DofE leader, it has been a delight for me to see these young people develop and have new experiences.

“They have increased their fitness, confidence and independence through the range of activities they undertook and they should be very proud of themselves.

Over 3,000 young people between 14 and 25 are taking part in the award scheme in Wiltshire in 49 different centres.

Anyone interested in joining the award scheme, or becoming a volunteer leader, can contact Louise Fisher on 07824 596885 or email her at louise.fisher@wiltshire.gov.uk
