Warminster roofer Keith Saunders smashed the world record for ladder climbing at Salisbury Fire Station when he climbed the equivalent of 13,239m on a ladder in a 24-hour marathon.

Keith, 46, of Copheap Lane, broke the previous record of 13,120m at the weekend to raise funds for Raleigh International, a charity that inspires young people to volunteer and work with communities living in poverty.

He said: “I’m physically and emotionally drained. I’m going to spend the next couple of days savouring it and recovering.

“Thanks to everyone that supported me I have now raised £1800.”

In September, he will go to Northern Borneo with the charity to help youngsters.

He said: “I have not done anything this ambitious before, the time is now right. My two kids have now grown up and there is nothing stopping me.”
