TORRENTIAL rain didn’t stop the fun at Melksham’s summer scout fair last Saturday, as the troop celebrated the reopening of its refurbished headquarters.
After securing grants from the Melksham Area Board and Town Council and completing a lengthy construction process, the group was joined by town mayor Terri Welch to relaunch the Scout Hut.
Chairman Andy Strange said: “We’ve had new windows and doors put in, cleared the area out the back and built a camp fire area.”
The works cost around £5,500. While the fair’s takings were down on previous years, a total of £370 was raised from the stalls and raffle.
The group has around 60 members, with a waiting list now in place for those wishing to join.
