A family had a lucky escape from a house in Bollands Hill, Seend Cleeve, Melksham, at 6.35am this morning, after a fire broke out in their ground floor living room.

One fire crew from Trowbridge and one from Melksham attended the incident and extinguished the fire using one hose reel jet, as well as two sets of breathing apparatus.

The family of five had already escaped through a first floor window when the fire crews arrived, with one man treated for smoke inhalation at the scene. Trowbridge Fire Station praised the family on Twitter for being prepared.

The message, which was sent from @Trow_Fire_Stn, said: “Early this morning we attended a serious house fire where a family was trapped upstairs.

“Luckily they managed to self rescue before we arrived out of a bedroom window onto a pitched roof then down onto a wheelie bin.

"Mum and dad had a fire plan. It saved them and their three children.”
