Students at The John of Gaunt School are celebrating an outstanding set of A-level results, with an overall pass are of 99.5 per cent and 36.1 per cent of results at A* to B.

The school also achieved excellent results in the BTEC Level 3 qualifications, with 68.4 per cent of results at distinction* and distinction level.

Among the stand out results was Sara Boiten, 18, who achieved A* in maths and further maths, as well as A grades in sociology and the extended project aualification.

She said: “I’m absolutely delighted. I was really nervous beforehand, but I checked whether I got my place at Warwick to study maths first thing so I knew I was in.

"It was a huge relief and it’s great to know all the hard work paid off.”

Another high achiever was Jamie Law, who gained A* in maths, A in business and B in further maths, and after a nervous wait he found out he had secured his place at Warwick despite needing three As.

Jamie, 18, said: “I’m really ecstatic as I thought I was going to get two Bs. I was looking at all the grade boundaries a few days ago to try and work out all the scenarios, but I was too scared to look at UCAS this morning so I came straight to the school.”

Headteacher Mike Gunston, who took over from former head Andy Packer at the end of last term, said: “Our students have performed really well this year and we are all extremely proud of them.

“So many have achieved beyond their expectation, which creates wonderful opportunities for their next steps in life. I would like to thank our staff for their commitment and the parents for their ongoing support.”
