Boswells Cafe in The Shires will be offering free drinks in exchange for cycle miles as part of a charity spinathon tomorrow, as the three brothers who run the coffee shop chain get on their bikes to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund in memory of their father, Jeremy Burn.

The Trowbridge event is part of a massive fundraising effort by the cafe chain in aid of research into the disease that claimed the life of the family company’s founder and chairman in 2012 – just weeks after diagnosis.

His three sons Nick, 40, Tim, 37, and Matthew, 38, are hoping to raise £40,000 with the 400-mile ride, which begins in Newport, Wales, on Wednesday and is criss-crossing the country, visiting all 15 Boswells cafes.

Nick Burn said: “This is a cause that is close to all of our hearts - £40,000 is seeming rather a lot now, but we raised £500 in Newbury in just a few hours so hopefully people will back us.

“My dad was only 64 when he was diagnosed and had just decided to go into semi-retirement.

“He had always been very healthy and active so it was a shock.

"He died very soon afterwards, which in many ways was a blessing for him because he would have hated being ill over a long period of time.”

Matt Burn said: “This wil be our third static bike ride after successful events in Newbury and Chippenham.

"We hope our customers in Trowbridge will want to take part and make a small donation to the charity.”

Customers are being urged to try and add as many miles to the overall total as possible.

Anyone who cycles for 15 minutes will recieve a free drink and the top five customers who add the most miles will also be rewarded with free coffee for a month.

The brothers are cycling along with half-brother Charlie Burn, brother-in-law Nick Jones and three friends.
