A Trowbridge pub tenant has achieved his dream of owning his own hostelry by buying The Greyhound in Mortimer Street.

Keith Morris has three months to go on his tenancy at The Twelve Bells, in Seymour Road, but bought The Greyhound this year and has worked tirelessly to transform it into a modern pub.

Once completed, the refurbishment will have cost about £50-£60,000, which includes everything being rewired, refitted, redecorated, new floors and furniture.

Mr Morris said: “We will open as soon as we can. It is now looking really sleek and I can’t wait for customers to come in and see it.

“I am looking for staff shortly. I will need two to three bar staff, a chef and a cleaner.

“The kitchen has to be refitted, so food will follow.”

The pub closed just after Christmas and Mr Morris, who worked as a print engineer before running The Twelve Bells, bought it in April.

He said: “I have always lived locally and was always looking for an opportunity to buy my own pub. I didn’t want to lease forever.

“I have been looking at this pub for two to three years.

“It took almost a year to complete the purchase and at one stage I thought it would fall through, but it came back to me.

“I am really looking forward to opening and will use The Twelve Bells as a learning curve.”

Mr Morris has already recruited two pool teams, two skittle teams, a darts team and poker on Thursday nights.

He said he hoped to get more teams in the future. The pub will have Sky Sports and BT Sports.
