A WALL of Remembrance commemorating Wiltshire soldiers who lost their lives during the First World War is on display at County Hall in Trowbridge until January 30.

It is made of 10,000 crosses made by thousands of schoolchildren across the county, each bearing the name of a soldier who died in the conflict The soldiers’ backgrounds have been meticulously researched by a local historian and the pupils and the exhibition was the main focus at the First World War commemoration event hosted by Wiltshire Council and the military at Tidworth Military Cemetery last year.

Wiltshire Council leader Jane Scott said: “This wall is a poignant and striking reminder of how many people from Wiltshire lost their lives in the First World War. As a community space the Atrium is a perfect setting for people to pay it a visit.

“Over the next few years we will continue to work closely with our communities and mark this important time in our history and ensure the memory of those soldiers is not forgotten by future generations.”

Venues are being asked if they would like to display part of the wall for at least four weeks, giving more people across the county an opportunity to see it and pay their respects.

Anyone interested hosting the wall in their venue should call 01225 713152 or email events@wiltshire.gov.uk
