A GROUP of Wingfield litter picking enthusiasts, known as the Wingfield Womble, continued their clean-up efforts this week by taking part in the The Big Tidy Up campaign.

Last Sunday (April 11), three parish councillors and three volunteers helped to keep the village tidy over three hours where they collected a total of 36 rubbish bags, seven of which were recyclable.

The group had previously carried out a litter picking day when Trowbridge Road was closed and collected over 50 bottles which had been nesting in the grass verge along the A366. The Big Tidy Up campaign, also known as the Community Clear Up day, is the UK’s biggest-ever litter pick and is part of the national Keep Britain Tidy initiative.

Across the country, communities are united to take action against an increasing throwaway culture of rubbish and carry out litter picks throughout the year.
