Ariyana May Santali

Born: April 6, 3.01pm

Weight: 6Ib 13oz

Parents: Tania Lewin and Mohammed Santali, Trowbridge

NEW mum Tania Lewin says it is hard to put into words what it means to become a parent for the first time, after giving birth to daughter Ariyana at Trowbridge Birthing Centre.

The 22-year-old and her partner Mohammed Santali, 27, who have been together for a year-and-a-half, welcomed their newborn into the world a few days later than expected, as her original due date was April 2.

However, Miss Lewin said the pregnancy went without any major issues and was full of praise for the staff at the birthing centre, where she was also born.

She said: “The pregnancy was fine and I did have a craving for cheese and Jalapeños. The birth was a bit of an experience, but it is something that is hard to prepare for until you go through it.

“It is quite difficult to explain how it feels to become a mother for the first time, but it is wonderful. The midwives were really good and did well dealing with my tantrums. I was glad to have it at the birthing centre.

“There was one point when I thought I might have to be induced and would need to go to the RUH in Bath, but thankfully I was able to have her in Trowbridge, which is where I was born.”

Miss Lewin and Mr Santali decided on the name of their newborn before the birth, after coming up with a list of possible names with their parents.

She added: “We knew it was going to be a girl as we found out during one of the scans. Mohammed’s mum came up with some names and my parents had some as well and we just decided on those we liked best.

“We have been visited by our family pretty much every day since we got home, so she has been getting a lot of love from both our parents.

“Ariyana is really content and the only time she wakes up is when she is hungry, which is good. She is sleeping a lot and just getting used to her surroundings.”
