TROWBRIDGE Carnival’s royalty enjoyed their first event since being selected on Monday, attending the annual bowls tournament fundraiser at Trowbridge Town Bowls Club.

The event, which saw eight teams compete throughout the day, was open to all bowls players, from the causal amateur to the experienced bowler, and was held to raise funds for the carnival.

As part of the tournament, the carnival royalty - princess Kaitlyn Maddox, eight, of Paxcroft Primary School, queen Olivia Bygraves, 10, of North Bradley Primary School, and consort Henry Butler, seven, of Staverton Primary School – organised a treasure island game to raise funds.

The annual town centre carnival procession will take place in October, with the bowls tournament one of many fundraising events taking place in the lead up.

Maryrose Mantle, carnival committee chairman, said: “It was a very good day and the weather was very sympathetic to us. We had eight teams in total and everyone seemed to really enjoy it.

“There was a great atmosphere and we even had people walking by the bowls club and coming in to watch the tournament. We also had a raffle and a treasure island game.

“It was the first proper event for the carnival royalty and they were excellent. They really enjoyed being involved in the day and they are looking forward to everything else we have coming up.”

The next Trowbridge Carnival fundraising event will be the soap box derby on August 16 in Castle Street. For more information, visit www.trowbridgecarnival.com
