Melksham & District Flower Arrangement Society

OVER 100 members and friends, including Pat Hazelhurst the SW Area President, gathered to watch an exciting and inspiring demonstration from national demonstrator Katherine Kear with her title Little Green Orchard on May 21.

Katherine, who had travelled from Gloucestershire had taken two-and-a-half hours to pack her car, and on her arrival at the Assembly Hall this was unloaded with all sorts of ‘interesting goodies’ coming out. She then commenced her preparatory work with the able assistance of Susie Rawstron, one of the club members.

Katherine – a born raconteur – held the audience spellbound as she took us on a journey down her garden into her orchard which then led us overseas to China, and back visiting various places in her ‘orchards’ with tales of folklore and legends interspersed. The stage gradually became an explosion of colour and wonderful creations, from using half a silver birch tree to unusually shaped wooden tripods lashed together. Her finale was a wonderful curl with two placements that was placed on top of a large triangular container with apples and pears hidden inside. The large stage was completely full of Katherine’s creations.

Ann Burgess the president gave the vote of thanks and the chairman Rosalyn Clarke thanked everyone for coming and the committee who had worked so hard producing refreshments and running the stalls. She also thanked Diane Mallon from Sainsbury’s for their contribution to the refreshments.

The next club meeting will be held on June 16 at Spencer’s Sports & Social Club, Beanacre Road, Melksham at 2pm. For more information contact Rosalyn on 01225 705007.
