TROWBRIDGE primary school Oasis Academy Longmeadow has set about improving with “urgency and determination”, according to a report produced from an Ofsted monitoring visit.

An Ofsted inspection carried out at the beginning of March found the school required improvement in the areas of leadership, behaviour and safety of pupils, quality of teaching, achievement and Early Years Provision.

However, following the report Principal Caroline Cox told the Wiltshire Times she was confident the school would be good by the time of its next inspection and a monitoring visit carried out in May reports that the school is taking “effective action” to tackle areas requiring improvement.

The report said the school has prioritised the need to improve the quality of teaching and has raised the expectations of what teachers must deliver and pupils can achieve.

Ofsted inspector Catherine Leary said: “In the relatively short space of time since the last inspection, leaders and members of the Oasis Multi Academy Trust have worked together to drive the pace of improvement.

“Teachers have developed their classrooms and corridor areas to high quality learning environments where pupils are inspired to continue to improve and learn well.”

She said Mrs Cox has set about providing the very best education for pupils and demonstrated ambition and commitment to ensure the academy is at least good at its next inspection.

The visit also noted how staff share her vision to improve the Academy quickly and found the leadership team are rigorously monitoring the quality of teaching and learning.

Mrs Cox, who initially joined the school as interim Principal in February last year, welcomed the comments from Mrs Leary and is happy that the commitment of the staff and pupils has been recognised.

“The children and staff of Oasis Academy Longmeadow are delighted with the HMI’s positive response to our work since our Ofsted inspection in early March,” said Mrs Cox.

“We are a small team with the determination, enthusiasm, passion and energy to ensure our children get the education and experiences they deserve and are able to become the best they can be.

“Oasis continues to provide challenge and support in equal measure. Rebecca Clark, our Regional Director is thrilled with the progress we making.”
