CALNE travel agent Mark Fetchett is warning his customers not to visit Tunisia as agents across the county deal with the aftermath of last week’s attacks.

Mr Fetchett, from online agency Travel Counsellors, said: “Many flights have been cancelled and I would advise people not to go.

“It will take a while now for the country to recover and people to start going back. Many people are now booking holidays for destinations in Europe with the Canary Islands proving to be very popular.”

Independent travel agents in the area, including Pebbles Travel in Chippenham, Robins World Travel in Marlborough and Travelwise in Devizes did not have any customers in Tunisia at the time of the attack and have no bookings for the immediate future.

Sadie Goodship, of Pebbles Travel, said: “I checked our records and we have not had any Tunisia bookings.”

Tanya Goodall, of Robins World Travel in Marlborough, said: “I think people were already wary of going to Tunisia so we haven’t had many bookings this year.”

Howard Travel in Trowbridge said it still has passengers in Tunisia. Of the six groups booked to go in the next few months, only one has expressed concerns about a potential attack but say they still intend to travel.

The Foreign Office is not telling tourists to stay away from Tunisia but the latest advice warns that “further terrorist attacks are likely, including in tourist resorts”.
