DOG lovers will be out in (police) force this weekend for the inaugural Wiltshire Police Dog Display event at Bowood House, near Calne.

The event, on Saturday and Sunday, is designed for members of the public to gain a better appreciation of the police force’s work within the community – particularly the work of the canine officers.

A variety of demonstrations such as mock chases to apprehend criminals and sniffer dogs in action plus agility and obstacle courses will be featured in the main show ring, on the grassed area near Bowood’s adventure playground.

“There will be the chance to meet the dogs and their handlers from Wiltshire Police’s specialist dog handling unit who will be happy to chat and answer questions,” he said.

“There will be the opportunity too for a close-up look at police vehicles.

"A crash vehicle manned by roads policing team, a marked response vehicle, a police communications vehicle and a firearms vehicle will all be exhibited.

“The Rural Crime Team will be present and there will be information around replica guns and on the dangers of carrying knives.”

Doors open at 11am and admission is free as part of the entrance cost for Bowood House and Gardens.
