SUNNY spells could return today, although forecasters are still warning of scattered showers and breezes.

The Met Office says the torrential storms we've seen in recent days could be at an end.

A forecaster said: "It will be a bright and breezy day with the strongest winds felt along the coast.

"Through the course of the day sunny spells will be interrupted by the development of scattered showers, these most frequent through the afternoon."

Temperatures would reach around 18C, he said, with showers fading as the night sets in.

"It will remain breezy overnight, especially around the coast. The showers will largely fade away leaving some prolonged clear spells," he added.

"The winds will ease allowing a cooler night."

Tomorrow would see more bright spells, he said, with temperatures rising to around 19C.

MEANWHILE, on the roads, the A34 at Newbury has been re-opened southbound after an overturned lorry yesterday. The road was re-opened to traffic at around 3am after being closed all day on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, there are no reports of major delays.
