AN ASPIRING composer from Bradford on Avon has come back home to record a music film compilation and hopes to help Holy Trinity Church raise money to refurbish the church in the process.

Taran Stormes Martino, 20 who is currently studying for a BA in Music at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute in Brighton, has recruited seven local musicians – all of which are old St Laurence alumni.

Mr Martino said: “Ultimately I'm recording to promote myself as a musician, but I also wanted to use this opportunity to promote the arts around Bradford on Avon.

“There are so many young musicians around here who are very talented and I wanted to help them get recognition and also let people know about some of the less obvious, but incredible, venues Wiltshire has to offer. If my work can help Holy Trinity raise much needed funds, that's an added bonus.

“It is absolutely amazing that everyone recording is my old school friends and I knew that they played classical music and can supply the instruments I need. It’s just kind that they are willing to help me out just like I would for them.

“The church is so atmospheric and it is 800 years old and the idea of using a space with that history is something which really interests me.”

The classical hits will then be made available on CD with all proceeds going to the Holy Trinity’s Big Community Connection Fund which will see a £1.9m renovation of the church.

With the support of Revd Joanna Abecassis, the “successful” recording took place last Thursday.

She said: “The project is a wonderful example of us connecting with the community and doing what we want to do. The musicians were lovely and they were very respectful and just thought the space was special.”

Mr Martino added that he hopes people will buy the CD so that not only his music is promoted but also the hard work of the church.

He said: “The money from the CD will help the church modernise the inside so that it can be more usable as a space for others to use like for recording or concerts for example.”

The musicians involved in the project are Rory Johnston (conductor), Helen Billingham (flute), Claire Billingham (oboe), Will White (trombone), Moira Alabaster (violin), George White (viola) and Xander Baker (cello), Chere Law (violins II).
